PROJECT NEXT STEPS

Community outreach for the project wrapped up in December 2024 and included six (6) pop-ups, six (6) workshops, a public survey with over 500 responses, and other marketing activities. After completing the community outreach, SFEI synthesized the science and research with the public feedback they received to shape the plan’s vision, goals, and objectives. In January 2025, SFEI led an implementation workshop with the City Project team, which is comprised of city staff from multiple departments including Community Services, Public Works, Sustainability, and Community Development, to discuss and identify feasible actions and metrics for the Plan. SFEI is now developing the Plan and preparing for city and public feedback on the draft plan content and recommendations.


The Biodiversity and Urban Forest Plan project schedule had to be modified to accommodate schedule revisions for other projects. This updated timeline avoids other city project overlap and accounts for internal and external review periods, advisory body meeting schedules, and city processes. Here is the new timeline:


June-September, 2025 – City review of DRAFT Plan

Late September/Early October – Public review of DRAFT Plan

October 8, 2025 - Parks & Recreation/Urban Forestry Board Commission meeting to present DRAFT Plan and receive feedback

October 15, 2025 – Environmental Planning Commission meeting to present DRAFT Plan and receive feedback

January 21, 2026 - Parks & Recreation/Urban Forestry Board Commission meeting to review updated DRAFT Plan and recommend to City Council

April 28, 2026 – City Council meeting to present DRAFT Plan and receive feedback

June 23, 2026 – City Council meeting to adopt the Plan
