WELCOME TO THOMPSON MINI PARK PROJECT

The City of Mountain View is excited to kick-off a new park project: Thompson Mini Park. Through careful acquisition and planning, the City is now initiating efforts to develop a new 0.43 -acre park in the Monta Loma neighborhood.

The goal is to provide additional park and open space and desired park amenities for the neighborhood and everyday park use.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Recognizing the need to add more parks in the Monta Loma neighborhood, the City Council approved the acquisition of properties at 538 Thompson Avenue (November 15, 2022) and 2231 West Middlefield Road (June 11, 2024) for the future development of a new 0.43-acre park. The Thompson Mini Park project was subsequently included in the Fiscal Year 2025–26 Capital Improvement Program.

The park design will be guided by community engagement, through various public meetings, with the goal of providing desired amenities and enhancing neighborhood open space.

The location of the project is shown in the map below.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

    Thompson Mini-Park is a proposed 0.43-acre park in the Monta Loma neighborhood, located at 538 Thompson Avenue and 2231 W. Middlefield Road. The project will provide additional park and open space for everyday community use.

    The City held the second community meeting for the project on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Monta Loma Elementary School in the Multi-Use Room, located at 460 Thompson Ave.

    At the second community meeting, staff presented conceptual layout alternatives based on feedback received at the first community meeting, invited community members to share park naming ideas, and gathered additional input on the proposed park features and design.

    The presentation materials from the meeting have been uploaded and are available in the Documents section of the project website.

    As an additional outreach opportunity, we would like to gather community feedback on the conceptual plan alternatives through the project website. The online survey will be available through October 8 at 5:00 PM. If you already participated in the voting at the September 24 community meeting, there is no need to submit the online survey again, as your vote has already been included. You are welcome to share any additional comments or feedback with us via email.

    Please take a moment to:

    • Vote for your preferred conceptual plan;
    • Share your ideas or recommendations for the park naming process; and
    • Provide any additional comments or recommendations for the park.

    The survey results will be summarized along with the other feedback we received, and the project team will use this input to further refine a preferred concept for presentation at the PRC meeting. At the meeting, we will share the preferred concept along with a summary of the survey results and other community feedback.

    We appreciate your continued engagement throughout the Thompson Mini-Park design process. We look forward to continuing to work with the community as the project moves forward.
