How does this program relate to Neighborhood Watch and CERT? Has it been coordinated with them?

Stephanie asked almost 5 years ago

Cool Block draws upon existing neighborhood strengths related to Neighborhood Watch and CERT. Rather than reinventing the wheel, Cool Block is a chance for folks involved in different neighborhood groups to share their knowledge in one area while also learning potentially new things in another, and deepening their connections with their neighbors while doing so. With its emergency preparedness and community safety actions, the Cool Block program can tie together Neighborhood Watch and CERT resources. Individual teams will be able to identify existing groups in their neighborhood and decide what they would like to focus on together.

You only need to attend one information session to learn more about Cool Block. The January information sessions will all cover the same material -- there are three meetings to allow for scheduling conflicts and give residents some flexibility with which meeting they choose to attend.

The City will host several informational meetings in January to give residents an opportunity to learn more about what Cool Block is, and how they can participate. Interested residents have the choice to be trained as "Block Leaders," who will then recruit 5-8 neighboring households to join their Cool Block team. Teams will meet 8 times over the course of 4-6 months, covering topics such as emergency preparedness, energy efficiency, water conservation, and creating safer, friendlier neighborhoods. At the end, there will be a celebration to recognize all of the teams who participated in making Mountain View Cool!
