California Street "AFTER" Survey (English)
To enhance transportation safety on California Street, the City installed the following improvements as part of the California Street Complete Street Improvements Pilot Project:
- Four-lane-to-two-lane road diet between Mariposa Avenue and Shoreline Boulevard;
- Four-lane-to-three-lane road diet with a two-way center left-turn lane between Showers Drive and Mariposa Avenue;
- Protected intersections (flexible posts and striping that separate bicycles from vehicles);
- Green bike lane striping at conflict points, such as driveways and bus stops;
- High-visibility crosswalks throughout the corridor;
- Three high-visibility midblock crosswalks with bulb-outs, islands, and enhanced lighting;
- Parking-protected bikeways (parking lane between the bike lane and the travel lane);
- Flexible posts to enhance visual cues of the bike lanes; and
- Resurfacing the entire corridor.
